I began baking several years ago. I loved going into my parents kitchen, finding a recipe and making something wonderful. The feeling of someone enjoying something I made was sublime. Putting your love into something, anything you make, is such a satisfying feeling.
Birthday cake to chocolate chips cookies, I wanted to do it all. Such a relaxing process, a great creative outlet. Although I loved it I never considered turning it into a career. Most of my family is in the medical/health field and I always figured I needed to follow their lead.
I tried, and for the most part...failed. I didn't enjoy it and I never looked forward to homework, tests, anything. I finally decided to take a break after another bad score on a math test.
Who did I call you ask? My mom of course. "Honey why don't you take a break, sort things out, save some money and follow your dreams." Or at least that was the gist of the conversation.
I did indeed take some time. I didn't register for classes the next term and simply worked and took time to enjoy hobbies, family and friends.
My sister had recently moved up to Portland and my mom and I went to visit. I looked out the window and little did I know at the time that I would see my future.
Across the street was a culinary school. With considerable encouragement from my mom and sister I got online and checked it out. A few days later I received 'the packet.' A beautiful, assortment of information and pictures to delight the imagination. My mind went wild thinking of all the wonderful things I could do and of course how I would one day be famous. Okay so I knew that wasn't realistic but everyone can dream right?
A few weeks passed, I scheduled a tour, fell in love and the rest is history...Or at least until the next blog when I continue my story.
